Supporting The Priory Theatre
At the Priory Theatre, we are embarking on an exciting programme of major projects designed to enhance and future-proof our theatre and rehearsal facilities for the benefit of both our members and our audiences. These improvements will ensure that our much-loved community theatre continues to thrive as a creative home for performers, volunteers and theatre-goers across Kenilworth and Warwickshire. To bring these plans to life, we will be seeking investment and support to enable essential works to be carried out over the coming years.
Accessibility Lift
We remain committed to making our productions welcoming and accessible to everyone. Our accessibility lift serving the stalls area, installed many years ago, now requires significant upgrading to ensure it remains reliable and available throughout our performance seasons. Maintaining step-free access is vital in allowing all members of our community to enjoy our shows with comfort and dignity.
Dressing Room
Behind the scenes, we are also planning long-awaited improvements to our dressing room facilities. Aside from occasional redecoration, this area has seen little change for decades. Creating a more comfortable, practical and inclusive environment for performers of all ages, helping us to support the high-quality productions for which the Priory Theatre is known.
Rehearsal and Costume Space
A short distance from the theatre stands the historic former National School building (1832), later the town’s library and now home to our costume department and rehearsal room. Although essential to our work, this space is rarely seen by the wider public and is often overlooked. The age and character of the building mean that substantial refurbishment works are needed to ensure it remains safe, functional and fit for purpose for many years to come. Preserving and improving this heritage space is an important part of safeguarding the Priory Theatre’s future.
For generations, Priory Theatre members have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to improving and sustaining the theatre. From installing new audience seating and creating extensions, to more recently refurbishing and enhancing the foyer, volunteers have continually invested time, skill and resources to develop the building. Most remarkably, following the devastating fire of 1976, members led the complete rebuilding of the theatre — a testament to the determination and community spirit that still defines the Priory today.
As you book your tickets, we invite you to consider adding a small donation to your purchase. Every contribution, however modest, directly supports these vital improvements and helps us continue developing our facilities while bringing high-quality, accessible live theatre to the people of Kenilworth and Warwickshire for generations to come.
