Audition date:
Sunday 18th January @ 4pm
Performance Dates : 1st to Sat 11th July
We are excited to announce open auditions for a production of Stepping Out, directed by Steve Bingham.
Stepping Out is a warm and very funny play about the lives, laughs and loves of a group of women (and one man) attending a weekly tap-dance class in a dingy North London church hall. Mavis, a former professional dancer teaches the bumbling tappers whilst mediating the dramas that erupt among the motley but loveable crew. When they learn they are to perform in a local charity showcase, the pressure is on! As they pull together and prepare for the big day, we follow the characters on a heartwarming journey that celebrates friendship, courage, and of course... dancing! Will they be ready in time?
Roles:
Mavis Turner - 30-40’s - Former professional dancer now teaching the class. Warm, energetic, occasionally exasperated.
Mrs. Fraser - 50s–60s The class pianist. Deadpan, sharp-tongued, dry sense of humor.
Dorothy - 30s–40s Nervous, awkward, sweet, and eager to please. Often paired with Geoffrey.
Lynne - 20s–30s Bright, enthusiastic, tries hard but sometimes overdoes things.
Maxine - 30s–40s Confident, showy, outspoken. A bit flashy, brings wine to rehearsals.
Andy - 20s–30s Shy, awkward, anxious young woman with an emotionally abusive home life.
Rose - 20s–30s Cheerful, talkative, upbeat, and supportive of others.
Sylvia - 20s–30s Bold, cheeky, fun, and earthy. Not always reliable but very likeable.
Geoffrey - 30s–50s The only man in class. Quiet, polite, reserved; develops affection for Andy.
Be able to dance an advantage as we only have 12 weeks of rehearsals there will be individual auditions as well as a group reading and a dance audition as a group.
