Present Laughter - Press Release

You are in for a double treat when you visit the Priory Theatre's next production. Present Laughter is set in the 1920's, and features an art deco set and wonderful 1920's costumes. However, during the run, you can also find out about the Tudor world. The director, Dixie Atkins, has just had her 5th historical novel published. Katherine of Aragon is the story of Henry VIII's first wife from birth to death, and Dixie will be signing copies during the run of Present Laughter from the 01 - 11 September.

The play is one of Noel Coward's funniest. Garry Essendine, famous actor, is the centre of a close-knit group who protect him from himself and his sometimes outrageous behavior. When the beautiful and predatory Joanna sets her cap at Garry, the group struggle to foil her. Matters are complicated by a stage-struck girl and her battleaxe mother, an eccentric young writer and a swedish spiritualist!

Coward's witty dialogue provides a wonderfully entertaining evening, and Natasha Stephens is looking forward to playing the unscrupulous and seductive Joanna. She is particularly excited as this is her first straight play. She has appeared on the Priory stage twice before, first as the title role in Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood and secondly in Jack and the Beanstalk as the hind legs of a cow! Luckily her daughter played the front legs so it wasn't too embarrassing! Natasha is also looking forward to wearing some very glamourous costumes which are stored in the Priory Wardrobe department. The art deco set will be a fitting background for all this elegance.

If you wish to see Natasha and the rest of the cast ring the Priory box office on 01926 863334 from 2-8pm.
