Richard Marne, film star, and his charming wife, Lilian, have invited three guests for a weekend at their country house. Richard’s brother appears to be an aimiable drunk; his agent, an efficient busybody; the young actress, sweet and naïve. But nothing is as it seems. Their peaceful Sunday is shattered by Stella. What is she doing there and who killed her? No-one seems eager to call the police and in their attempts to solve the mystery themselves, there are many startling revelations. When the truth is finally revealed, there is a final twist which will shock both the characters and the audience.
